Christie’s Classic Week, the hybrid series of ten live and online auctions offering timeless and elegant pieces from antiquity to the 20th century, totalled US$73,753,500. The event witnessed global participation with over six continents and 52 countries reporting and helping to drive 48% of lots over their high estimates.

The top lot of Classic Week was Shakespeare’s ‘First Folio’ that sold for US$9,978,000 during the Exceptional Sale, breaking the world auction record for any work of literature.

The Antiquities live sale started the week with 83% sold by lot and the Attic Red-figured Kylix, attributed to Makron, setting an auction record for an attic vase with US$1,830,000. European Art supported the week with the strong sale of Carl Spitzweg’s Der Hexenmeister that sold for US$1,230,000 — more than four times its low estimate.

Private collections witnessed exceptional results as The Private Collection of Jayne Wrightsman soared to US$8,869,000 after eight hours of live bidding and its online sale following with 100% sold by lot. The Martin Feldstein Collection: Dutch Art in the Golden Age continued the trend with 90% sold by lot.

Old Masters continued with the standout live sale of Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Lucretia that realised US$5,070,000 after competitive bidding from three phone and two online bidders. closed the week online with US$2,954,125, including the sale of by an early 16th-century Netherlandish master that exceeded its estimate of US$30,000‒50,000 to realize US$212,500. Both top lots from the Old Masters genre were offered by the Brooklyn Museum and sold to support their Museum Collections.
